Home For the Holidays: Day 12

Good Morning Everyone! Its me - Sankari :) and I have been loving peeking at all the amazing and gorgeous samples that the Divas have been making every day - and they maybe under $10 - but they look a million bucks to me!! So to continue the challenge of creating home decor and accents for under $10 - I created a little hanging chipboard star mobile to hang from our light fixture in the dining room. We are always hanging around the dining room table - whether it is for meal times, snack times or craft time with the kids - I thought it would be nice to decorate that area with a starry mobile :) The total cost of 4 chipboard pieces were $2.99 and each of the ribbons were only 50 cents - bringing up the total to a grand ole: $4.99 (and then some change with tax) - gotta love that!

Each star measures approximately 4 inches across. Each one was colored in on the edges and then I traced the star shape onto the lovely Jolly by Golly paper pack from Cosmo Cricket (each star is double sided - so I traced 8 stars on the different papers - and then adhered them paper onto the stars with some zip dry). I absolutely LOVED making this project and love that we can use it every year! I LOVE all of the wonderful sentiments that Julee has in each of her stamp sets along with the gorgeous images! It totally makes it a breeze to create a project like this! The first star has one of my favorite sentiments: "Snowflakes are winter's butterflies" and this sentiment and the two snowflakes are from the set: Christmas in the Air.

On the back of this star is this gorgeous sentiment from Blessed Christmas: "Have a blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year".

The second star's design comes from the beautiful set: Holly Jolly: The holly leaves are stamped 5 times and cut out and then popped up on dimensionals and I love the sentiment: "Have a holly jolly Christmas" :)

On the back of this star is the sentiment "Christmas Blessings" from the stamp set: Blessed Christmas. For this star,I created a little pocket so that my children could write all things that they are thankful for and what they wish for their friends, family and the world (my son's wish for everyone is always that everyone gets to have a monster truck! :)

The third star is one of my faves - I love this little winter scene created from the gorgeous setChristmas in the Air.- where I paper pieced the Christmas tree and then created a little snow scene with some crimped snow, popped up trees and some little buttons to the side.

On the back of this star, I used the sentiment "Let it Snow" from the stamp set: "Snow Wonderful" and I cut some of the hats and mittens out of the paper to create a little scene.

The last star has on the front a little coffee mug (which I am imagining is some yummy hot chocolate!!!) from the set "Delightful and Delicious which is also the expression in the sentiment:

And on the back of the star is a wreath that I stamped and colored with copics and is from the set: O Christmas Tree and in the middle of the wreath is the sentiment "Merry Christmas" that fits perfectly in the middle of the wreath. I decorated with some bling and some liquid pearls :)

Project Parade - Day 10

Welcome to Day 10 of the Verve Project Parade! I have a super fun project for you today!

When I was thinking of what I'd create for this Anything But a Card challenge, my mind went blank! So I scanned my stamp room, and my eyes fell on this tin full of Primas. Eureka! What a perfect little way to package a few cookies, or some gift tags!

 

It's hard to see in the photo, but I stamped the pink strip with the background from Snow Wonderful in Versamark Dazzle Champagne Watermark ink, then embossed with Clear embossing powder. It has a nice shimmer to it in real life that's almost impossible to capture in a photo. 

The top of the tin was wrapped in 5/8" Grosgrain ribbon with a little bow, and the top was covered using cardstock layers cut with my Circle Nestabilities dies. The top layer is the other side of the Fancy Pants Arctic Chill paper that I used to wrap the bottom of the tin. I sponged all the edges, then added the sentiment in Brilliance Pearlized Chocolate ink.

To finish off the tin, I stamped the snowman three times in the same Brilliance ink, then colored the appropriate pieces with Copic markers. I cut them out and layered them with Pop Dots to make the snowman jump right off the tin! Here is a photo of the tin open:

Project Parade - Day 9

And now another fabulous project from our Guest Diva, Jennifer Meyer.

Hello and welcome to the Verve Project Parade. For my project, I chose to create a fun advent calendar. The calendar was created on a small cookie sheet that measures 13.2 “ X 9.2 “. (I got mine at the Dollar Tree) To personalize our calendar, I added our family name on the top using the printer and a fun font.

Since the cookie sheet was longer then my standard 8 ½ x 11 cardstock, I created some fun layers on the bottom to camouflage the seam. The background of the calendar was stamped and embossed using Snowflake Splendor. All of the pieces for the dates we made using the square scalloped Nestabilities and layered with piece of chocolate chip cardstock. Numbers were made using my Playground font by Sizzix.

What would Christmas be without glitter and shine? Once the calendar was put together, I used the Martha Stewart snow glitter all over the dates along with the fun layers on the bottom of the calendar.

Since our family is full of December Birthdays, I used my Birthday Surprise stamp set and embossed a few presents to mark all of the Birthdays in December. The snowman was stamped twice using the Snow Wonderful stamp set. To make our calendar interactive, all of the images have a piece of magnet on the back. You too can create something so fun and something you will cherish for years to come! I know my children will have a blast each morning moving us a day closer to the best time of year!

Project Parade - Day 8

Hi everyone, it's Michelle! Today is my day to show you a project with this month's theme - Anything But a Card. After hearing the theme and after I stopped hyperventaliting (I am pretty much a "card only" kinda gal!), I headed right on over to SCS and did a gallery search for "treat bags" for inspiration. I wanted to give a treat bag to the wonderful receptionist at my boys' preschool. I found the cutest project which linked a tutorial by the lovely Texasjodylynn (Jody) on her blog, Confessions of a Ribbon Addict.

This is called a Boxy Bag, here is the link to the tutorial. I used piece of Bashful Blue cardstock for the box and Verve's Snow Wonderful set to decorate it. For the strip along the bottom, I stamped long snowflake BG builder stamp in Brilliant Blue. I framed it with a piece of Brilliant Blue cardstock punched with SU's scallop border punch. I did that for all 4 sides then tied a piece of SU royal blue 1/4" grosgrain around it.

Next I stamped the Santa and then stamped his hat again. I colored and decorated him with some Kaiser rhinestones, cut him out and glued him to the bag. I then cut out the second hat and popped it up. I raided my ribbon scrap bag and found some various silver, white and blue ribbons. The Christmas chocolates are in a regular sandwich baggie that I tied, trimmed and pulled up through the punched slots.

I used Jody's tutorial with 2 variations. The first, I cut a couple inches off the top panels, making the project not as tall. The second, I used a Word Window punch to make the ribbon slot instead of the Slot punch.

Project Parade: Day Six

I admit, I'm more of a card type girl than a "project" kinda gal. So Anything But a Card gave me a few heart palpitations. And if it's not going to be a card, it has to be functional. At least that's how I look at it. So, here's my FUNCTIONAL Anything But a Card! It's a 3 by 5 inch pocket sized notebook. I kept the frills to a minimum so it wouldn't get beat up in your purse. One brad and some glitter. At least your purse will be festive after a few days!

You just need to remove the wire coil. Mount card stock on the notebook cover. Punch holes. And rewire.

Project Parade--Day 5!

Hi everyone, it's me, Susan! I'm so excited to share my Anything But a Card Project Parade creation with you today! Ever since I saw THIS Accordian Tag that Sharon Johnson of No Time to Stamp? made, I kept going back to look at it over and over again just to stare at it in awe (and wondering just when the heck I would have time to make one for myself!). I just love it!
So I knew this assignment would be the perfect "excuse" to sit down and create one to add to my family's Christmas decor this year. I did take Sharon's advice and picked a shorter phrase (LOL--wink!), but her instructions were super easy to follow and pare down for my needs.
I used both of the new snow related sets from Verve called Snow Wonderful and Snowflake Splendor and even pulled out an old favorite of mine (one of my first Verve sets, as a matter of fact, and still a favorite), Polka Stars (makes me want to dance).
I kept adding and embellishing until I found a "happy stopping point" and I am just pleased as punch over how it turned out! I truly hope you get a chance to play with us in our challenge...I had been craving a "project" to work on as opposed to a card and this totally fit the bill!

Project Parade - Day 4

We hope you're enjoying the project parade so far...don't the divas rock? This month, we've asked our Guest Divas to participate as well. Here's a post from Guest Maria Gurnsey:

While I was trying to decide what to make for this Project Parade, I came across a stash of burlap I bought and never used (who does that). Since I’m addicted to Kraft paper, burlap seemed like a great fabric substitute. This burlap sack was super easy to make. I started with a 5x10 piece of fabric, folded it in half, sewed the sides with my sewing machine and turned it inside out. You could easily stitch it by hand too.

I couldn’t resist getting the snowman from Snow Wonderful inky again, he’s just too cute!! I was going to stamp right on the burlap but the material distorted the image too much. Hum….now what? How about a pair of old jeans!! I stamped right on the denim with Black Stazon Ink and colored the image with my Copics. I’m not sure if you’re suppose to use copics on fabric but it seemed to work. (FYI..the blues seemed to bleed more than the other colors).

I cut out the snowman with my Scalloped Rectangle Nesties and my Cuttlebug. I had to run it through a few times and then still have to use my scissors to finish the cuts. Even with fabric, I couldn’t resist inking the edges. I used a sponge and my Chocolate Chip ink to “muddy” the edges of the denim. I attached the denim panel with brads only! I was going to use fabric glue but was afraid it would make the ink run. The brads attached super easy, I just poked a hole with my paper piercer.

To finish off the bag, I threaded some black floss through the top to be able to cinch it shut a little. Since that was a little plain I couldn’t resist adding my other addiction, gingham ribbon. I tied the ribbon in a bow and then used the floss to hang the tag stamped with the Season’s Greetings sentiment from the Snowflake Splendor set. I also tied a button on for a finishing touch!!

A few candy canes and this bag is ready to be given as a gift!

Guest Spotlight - Jen Tapler

Welcome to another Guest Diva spotlight from Verve! Aren't these guests ROCKING these stamps? They just blew us all away!

Today I have the pleasure of showing you some fabulous projects from Jen Tapler. Jen's clean and innovative approach to stamping has been known to knock my socks off! I think you'll agree when you see the projects I have to show you today.







The first card I have to show you is one that Jen created using the Snow Wonderful set. I love how Jen used the white paint instead of ink on the stamps...it pops so much more on the Kraft paper! And the touch of red...just phenomenal! Love it!

We asked Jen to answer some questions about herself, and here are a few of her answers:

1. When/how did you get hooked on stamping?
I've been scrapbooking for several years and about a year ago I wanted a sewing machine to add stitching to my pages (which was just becoming popular at that time). Instead, my MIL bought me a set of stitches stamps. I honestly didn't touch them for like 6 months, then one day in January (of this year) I saw them in the back of my crafty closet and just went for it - that was the beginning of the end for me! I bought my first set of rubber stamps about a week later and haven't looked back!


2. How often do you stamp?
I do something creative every day - in addition to stamping I'm heavy into digital scrapbooking and hybrid papercrafts, so on the days I don't stamp I'll design a digital layout in photoshop or print out some yummy digital paper to use on a card later. But on average I probably stamp at least 5 days a week (yeah, I'm kind of addicted).


3. Tell me about your funniest or most embarrassing stamping related injury.
Well, fortunately I wasn't actually INJURED - but before I got my new crafty space remodel, I had a corner of the guest room with my supplies stacked on bookshelves in the closet. I'm really short (like under 5'1") and I couldn't reach my Big Shot, which was on the top shelf. I tried standing on the bottom shelf and reaching - no go. So I ventured to the 2nd shelf. Just as I reached the Big Shot with my fingertips, I felt the bookshelf start to tip. Luckily I pushed myself off fast enough to avoid the shelf falling on top of me, but I did land on my butt on the floor and every SINGLE thing on that stupid shelf fell down, practically drowning me in crafting supplies. My DH ran in to find me covered in boxes and boxes of stamp sets, ink pads, loose paper, ribbon spools, you name it. He was amused (I was not). It took me weeks to reorganize everything!!

The next project I have to show you is an adorable onesie created with Hello Pumpkin. This was a huge hit at the release party...and in fact, we are looking for adult sized ones at the request of Susan and Mark (Julee's DH). Can you just imagine? LOL
Sorry, back to the project. Jen used fabric piecing to create this cutie, and decorated a little clear box to put it in. What an adorable idea for a baby gift!

4. How long does it take you to create a project that you're happy with?
I'd say on average about an hour, sometimes less. I'm pretty impatient to see the end result and if it's going to take much longer than an hour I get frustrated and am ready to move on to the next project already. This is probably why I avoid lots of technique-heavy projects and just stick to good ole paper, stamps and ribbon most of the time.


5. I am usually a little messy in my creating. Tell me about your creative space.
Oh my goodness, I LOVE my space!! I have a new crafty space and so far I've done a pretty good job of keeping it organized. My DH and his step-father built me a beautiful large work area with custom built-in cabinets, 10-foot long counter-height work surface (so I can sit or stand to create), space for my computer/printer/peripherals, everything has it's place. The MoJo flows much more freely now that I don't spend half of my time searching for a certain tool or piece of ribbon. I usually make a huge mess during a project, but I have to put everything back where it belongs before moving on to the next project.


6. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what craft tool would you take with you? Why?
This is such a hard question...hmmm...deserted island....all I can think of when I think of a deserted island is the TV show Lost....which leads to thoughts of Sawyer...shirtless....{sigh}...and I can tell you there wouldn't be much stamping happening with shirtless Sawyer around!!! I mean, really! It should just be illegal for a man to look that good. {another sigh}. Oh wait, did you ask me a question?

The last project I have to showcase today is actually the first one Jen sent me. Man, when I looked at it, you had to pick me up off the floor! Using the stamps from Ornamental Christmas, Jen created this little mini-book. How adorable is this???

7. What is your biggest source of inspiration?
I would have to say browsing through the many, MANY stamping blogs out there. If I'm feeling stuck or in need of ideas, I just start blurfing and before I know it I usually have more project ideas than I have time to do them!


8. Who in the stamping world do you want to be when you grow up and why?
I think I might have to say Kristina Werner - working as a Graphic Designer for a huge stamping company by day and then filling her free time with all kinds of papercrafts...and she has quite the following and is almost so cute you want to hate her but can't because she seems so darn nice. (I really have no idea what a Graphic Designer actually DOES with her day...but it sounds cool!!). Ya know, right now I'm pretty excited about where I am - I never thought I'd be a Verve Guest Diva only 10 short months after inking up my first stamp!!! Life is good.

Guest Designer Spotlight - Sarah Gough

Hi Everyone! I hope you enjoyed Maria's projects on yesterday's Guest Diva Spotlight. If you missed it, check it out HERE.

Today I have some more awesome stuff to show you! This time, we're featuring the work of Guest Diva Sarah Gough. After seeing some of Sarah's Verve creations, we knew she needed to be a Guest Diva for us!







The first project I'm featuring today is Sarah's Triangle Box using Poinsettia Christmas. I love how she created depth with the circles and cut out flowers, and the multi-colored sentiment is to die for! I think my favorite part, though, is the ribbon treatment. The white sheer ribbon paired with gold cord is totally STUNNING!

 

We asked Sarah to tell us a few things about herself. Here are a few of her answers:

1. When/how did you get hooked on stamping?
I started stamping almost exactly a year ago. I had dabbled previously....but stumbled on SCS while looking for Cuttlebug advice in late 2007 and haven't looked back since! Because of SCS I "discovered" all the amazing stamp companies and artists out there - yup, I'd been living in a bubble till then!
2. How often do you stamp?
I try to stamp every day. Sometimes life gets in the way....but doing something creative is essential for my sanity!
3. Tell me about your funniest or most embarrassing stamping related injury.
Uh oh! Let me think.....you know, I don't think I've ever injured myself stamping - does that mean I'm not doing it right?!? I did manage to open a Stampin' Up! ink pad so forcefully once that it came apart and hit me in the face!!! I blame creative energy and enthusiasm for that one. 

The next card I have to show you is this colorful and adorable snowman Sarah created using Snow Wonderful. These colors just immediately draw you to this card, and the ribbon is just awesome. I love the little details that Sarah adds to her projects! The snowman is cut out and popped up over several layers and has glitter and liquid applique to accent him. I LOVE IT!!

4. How long does it take you to create a project that you're happy with?
It depends. I have "multiple stamping personality" so sometimes you'll catch me making a clean and simple quickie in 10 minutes, but other times I can spend half a day fluffing with this or that ribbon or embellishment! Generally a couple of hours though I'd say....I like to relax and take lots of time to play.
5. I am usually a little messy in my creating. Tell me about your creative space.
I was dreading this question! It seems I spend more time cleaning and organising my space than actually stamping sometimes. Luckily, I like getting everything "just so" then destroying it in 10 seconds flat! I get so caught up in the process, I never put anything away as I work. Consequently my little studio space always looks like a hurricane has just passed through. I wouldn't have it any other way though, the mess is just proof of all the love and tenderness I put into what I'm working on. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!)
6. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what craft tool would you take with you? Why?
Wow...tough one! I think I'd have to take my Crop-a-dile. I always seem to be using it around the house to fix this or that - so it stands to reason it might come in handy on an island. Worst case scenario - it's heavy enough to crack open coconuts with!

Sarah's final project is this gorgeous card using the Philippians 4:13 Plain Jane stamp. I adore how she coordinated the colors of her project with the colors of the Prima flower. The most awesome thing about this card, though, is that the ATC sized layer with the scripture is detachable, so you can carry it around with you! How GENIUS is that? Love it.

7. What is your biggest source of inspiration?
Other stampers. Definitely! There's something to be learned from every stamper - no matter how new they are to this medium. I love the time and dedication stampers put into sharing their amazing work on blogs or sites like SCS - I even love all the enabling they do (I'm looking at you Julee - I swear I didn't NEED those Long Rectangle Nesties!!!) We're definitly a community that cares, and I find that incredibly inspiring.
8. Who in the stamping world do you want to be when you grow up and why?
There are so many stampers I admire - we'd be here a long time! I'm especially impressed by anyone who can colour, I do a lot of paper peiecing to try and hide my fear of colouring! I'm also in awe of anyone who knows exactly what their style is - it's so cool to see a card and know who the stamper was automatically. I'm thinking of stampers like Silke Ledlow, Julee Tilman, Sharon Johnstone, Beate Johns, Shannan Teubner, Dawn Easton, Cindy Haffner and just sooo soooo many others! Of course I love the entire Verve design team....the never ending inspiration provided by these amazingly talented ladies and Julee's amazing designs is the reason for my dearly loved, and extensive Verve stamp collection!

When it comes to holiday stamps, I generally tend to steer away from the traditional images (trees,Santa, etc). So, it's no surprise that when I saw these snowmen, snowflakes and cute sentiments contained in the Snowflake Splendor and Snow Wonderful sets my heart skipped a beat. The images and sentiment used here are a combination of both of those sets that work in perfect harmony together.

"Frosty, the Snowman, is a fairy-tale they say, he was made of snow, but the children know, how he came to life one day!".....Do snowmen make your heart "melt" like they do mine? I have just always loved them, so when I saw this cute little snowman looking up at me with that certain "wonderment" in his eyes, I could not wait to smush him into an inkpad and and make him come to life. Julee definitely had the magic turned on when she came up with this set, Snow Wonderful, and another set that coordinates beautifully with it called Snowflake Splendor. Come on and walk in our "Winter Wonderland" VERVE-style as we Deck the Halls here on the Verve blog!!

I just LOVE the mix of delicate snowflakes and elegant greetings in the set Snowflake Splendor. It makes creating a card or adding a little something extra to a gift so easy! The snowflakes can also be perfectly layered for a little more dimension in your snowflake. This is definitely a new favorite set for me! :)

deliver! Snow Wonderful is such a great stamp set with not one, but two adorable snowmen. Of course, what Verve set would be complete without elegant sentiment stamps.
I couldn’t resist making some fun, holiday, home décor with this set. I altered some wooden plaques from the dollar store and covered them with some yummy holiday paper (and my favorite) kraft! The snowflakes were just screaming for glitter and really add some wonderful sparkle!! You’re gonna love this set!!!
