December Diva Dare Winners

Trusting everyone had a blessed Christmas and hope you are able to enjoy a little down time now that the rush is over.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this month's "Playing Favorites" Diva Dare!  It was great fun seeing everyone's favorite Verve set or card from 2013.  I also enjoyed trying to guess the Divas replies to the questions and got a few giggles and surprises along the way.  

Now for our winners!  First up, the randomly selected participant who has won a $40 gift certificate to the Verve Store is Diana Nguyen with this card.

I loved the colour combination she used as well as the embossed chevrons, shading on the focal panel, and the hearts on the cups.  Needless to say, I now have a rather strong craving for a latte!

December Diva Dare - Final Day

Hi Verve fans!  Have you enjoyed our Playing Favorites Diva Dare as much as I have?  I just love seeing all the fun things each person chooses to highlight and reading a little bit more about their crafty faves.  A super fun Dare, indeed!  I'm wrapping up the Dare today, but there's still a little bit of time to post your old or new favorite Verve card to be in the running for our prize drawing!  Deadline to play along is Thursday, December 26.

Although I have lots of favorites with Verve, the set I always come back to when I get to stamp just for stamping's sake is Hope Blooms.  I just love these shabby flowers and the fun all occasion sentiments.  So when I stole a few moments to stamp last week, that's the set I reached for.

I stamped the flower twice in Strawbery Slush on designer paper, then hand cut and sponged the edges with the same color of ink.  The leaves are cut with the Elegant Leaves Die from soft sky cardstock and I stamped the coordinating image from Bloom & Grow in soft sky, then highlighted softly with a white prismacolor pencil.  The birthday sentiment is stamped in strawberry slush and I gave it the same sponged treatment as the flowers, handcutting a little banner edge on one side.  I finished off with some pink pearls in varying sizes for the flower center.

 As a fun extra this month, the Divas are answering "The Diva Fab Five Questionnaire."  Here goes!

1. My three favorite Verve products...  they all have near and dear spots in my heart, but I'd have to say Hope Blooms, Words of Wisdom and No Matter What are the ones I gravitate toward the most.

2. My current go-to color combination...  I love aqua with just about anything, but particularly love aqua, grey and red together.

3. My current go-to embellishment... I used to be really big on embellishments, but have taken a simpler approach to stamping lately (mostly because naptime doesn't allow me the time to dig through supplies to find the perfect embellishment).  I do love flatback pearls and rhinestones and liquid pearls.  One of those seems to make it on every one of my cards.  Love those little mini library clips SU! used to sell, too.  Now I'm hoarding my last package since they don't carry them anymore.

4. My favorite stamping or organizational tool... I've recently fell in love with the Envelope Punch Board.  Love making little envelopes and gifties.  I also just love my two-tier Clip It Ups.  I have one for for storing my Verve stamp sets and one for storing baggies filled with different seam bindings, lace, ribbon, flowers and other fun embellishments.

5. My favorite treat...  I usually have a mixture of Hot Tamales and Red Hots on my stamping desk.  I also love Lily's Dark Chocolate Coconut bars, but they normally don't stick around the craft studio very long!  LOL  During the holidays, I usually trade in my cinnamon dish for candy canes, peppermint nougats or white chocolate peppermint pretzel crisps.

"Playing Favorites", December Diva Dare

Welcome to the last Diva Dare of 2013!  This month's Dare is entitled "Playing Favorites" and it is a fun one indeed!

What we're daring you to do this month is to post your favorite Verve Stamps 2013 creation OR make a new card using your favorite Verve stamp set.  

Hi Verve Fans!  It's Charmaine here and I'm excited to bring you Day 11 of this month's Diva Dare.  All of the Divas have been posting their favorite Verve creations of the year, but it would take me too long to decide which ones are my favorite!  I used this week's Mojo Monday Sketch and created a new card using a favorite Verve set!   I have LOTS of favorite Verve sets, but Verve sentiments have always been my fave.  Out of all of the sentiment sets at Verve, Words of Wisdom is probably the one I grab most.  I love the sentiments and I adore the fonts.  As I was looking through past Verve creations, I realized that I also have the most cards using this particular sentiment as well!!  So, I guess I really do have a single favorite!  LOL  This sentiment just makes me happy and is a great reminder for me to "not sweat the small stuff"!  The papers are from the Here and Now Collection from Echo Park. This card also uses the Award Banner Trim Die.

1. Your three favorite Verve products--My three favorite Verve products are any of the ribbons, probably the Classy Label Die (since I seem to use that a lot) and I'm going to go vague and say Verve sentiments!  :) 

2. Your current go-to color combination--I don't really have a go-to color combination.  I tend to always use bright, happy colors and that color combination really depends on the patterned paper set I'm using. 

3. Your current go-to embellishment--I use Verve's seam binding ribbon A LOT!!  I just LOVE it!  I don't usually add a ton of embellishments to a card, but if I do add something, it's usually the seam binding!

4. Your favorite stamping or organizational tool--my favorite stamping tool would probably be my Big Shot.  I use it for every card I make whether I'm embossing something or diecutting.  Couldn't live without it!  ;)

5. Your favorite treat--I don't eat while stamping.  I never have.  When I'm stamping I'm usually so focused on what I'm creating I can't even think about eating.  I've tried to bring my coffee into the studio with me when I stamp first thing in the morning, but it ends up getting cold because I forget about it!  LOL

Hello Verve lovelies! It's Andrea here with you today! Over the past few years at the end of the year, I've posted my favorite cards, month by month as a recap. I have to say that probably 11 out of 12 of those cards feature Verve stamps..only because they are my VERY FAVORITE! I'm going to narrow down my list just a little so I hope you enjoy!

This card features the No Matter What set...which was a new release in January. Here's the original post.

Guess what?! I love No Matter What so much, I used it again in February. Here's the post from my blog with the deets.

This card came about from our March Diva Dare challenge. I created this beauty with the Beautiful Plain Jane merged with Maureen's Buttons and Bling and Laurie's Just Give Me Stamps. A very nice marriage...I must say!

 This card was Pinterest inspired (one of my very favorite inspiration sites!) I love the type-written font from the Twitterpated set. This is how I made it.

 A bold burst of color for me...the idea was to feature yellow, so I had this bright gingham ribbon and matched it up with some pretty yellow and green flowers. The Verve set I used is Take Note. Here's the original post.

And...lastly...another Diva Dare creation! This one paid homage to our wonderful leader, Julee and the always uplifting Teresa! I inked up Words of Wisdom and shabbed up some Truly Madly Deeply seam binding to make this vintage gem. Here's where you can find the original post.

Ok, time for a little Q & A:

What are your three favorite Verve products?
Like my fellow Diva sisters...how do you pick just three (or just one hundred)? Let me see...I really love Julee's stamps, dies and ribbon...but to be a tad more specific...I do reach for the Pennant Trim Die quite often, the Truly Madly Deeply ribbon collection is the most cut into and my inkiest stamp set would have to be Celebration of Thanks.

What is your current go-to colour combo?
Ah, that's easy. Every color, though muted down to almost colorlessness. Well, not that extreme, but I do love my pastels and almost every card I make has earthy tones, brown, tan, cream with muted accent colors.

What is your current go-to embellishment?
Past, present and future will always be flowers. I absolutely adore the sweet, delicate feminine look of flowers...in truth, they just make me happy. :)

What is your favorite stamping or organizational tool?
Currently...two pencils. What? I've devised a way (my resourceful side coming out) to make the tightest, prettiest bows using two pencils. I have a tutorial for that here. Of course, this card features a beautiful Verve stamp...Harvest Blessings.

What is your favorite treat to eat while stamping?
That's easy. Life cereal. Yummy wheat squares with a smidge of sugar in the middle. I can put those things away by the handful!

December Diva Dare - Day 9

"Playing Favourites", December Diva Dare

Welcome to the last Diva Dare of 2013!  This month's Dare is entitled "Playing Favourites" and it is a fun one indeed!

 

What we're daring you to do this month is to post your favourite Verve Stamps 2013 creation OR make a new card using your favourite Verve stamp set.

 

Though this Diva does not like to play favourites either, it was easy to pick my favourite Verve set of 2013...Teachers Count!  Are you surprised? LOL  Julee took my idea for a teacher set and created the most beautiful stamps with sweet apple images and the most heartfelt sentiments.  I took this set and put a Christmas twist on it!

 

 

I've used a sentiment from Merry & Bright and the Winter Tree Plain Jane with coordinating Winter Fun die to create a sweet teacher Christmas card.  Here are some of the cards I made throughout the year with Teachers Count.  My set is very brown and well loved! 

 

 

  

This first card was for a teacher who retired last June.

 I left this card on a new staff member's desk in September.

 A colleague bought this card to give to her daughter's teacher!

 

What are your three favourite Verve products? 

Well, I love it all!  The dies that match specific stamps, the stamps, and all the yummy seam binding ribbon.  Julee's ribbon is super soft and a dream to tie!

 

What is your current go-to colour combo?

Hmm, I really don't have a favourite!  I'm a lover of colour and my choices come from the beautiful paper pads I use.  I do, however, love non traditional colours for Christmas and Valentine's Day.

 

What is your current go-to embellishment?  

Are you ready?!  Doilies, bakers twine, jingle bells (continuing for 3 years now!), gems, seam binding ribbon, tags, oh my! 

 

What is your favourite stamping or organizational tool?

I would have to say that my Big Shot and Stampin' Up guillotine cutter are the two tools I use for every card I make.  I also love my jewellery organizer that I bought at Michaels.  It sits by my Big Shot and holds all my Verve dies.

  

What is your favourite treat to eat while stamping? 

 I rarely eat in the studio as my hands are too busy!  BUT you'll often find a coffee, or latte, or glass of water on my desk.

What are your three favorite Verve products? Plain Janes, Sentiments and flowers! Plain Jane stamps are what first drew me into the blissful world of Verve Stamps. I was infatuated with them enough to make a verse box for my mom one year. Verve sentiments, flowers? Need I say anything more?

What is your current go-to color combo? I'm pretty sure my color combo is kaleidoscope wrapped up with kraft. If it's a bright contrast and toned down with kraft somewhere, I'm good.

What is your current go-to embellishment?  Verve Seam Binding Ribbon. It's the easiest thing in the world to make into bows and comes in just the right color... always.

What is your favorite stamping or organizational tool? Oh the mention of organization is giving me hives right now so I'll stick with my Tombow Liquid Glue. It's the only thing that has been holding all my cards together.

What is your favorite treat to eat while stamping? Chocolate with a mug of coffee or tea. Allegedly it's been said that I can go through a container of chocolate covered almonds within a week when I'm deep in the crafting studio. I'll neither confirm nor deny that statement.

What are your three favorite Verve products? 

I love the I heart you dies, the Stronger Love and Doodled Occasions stamp sets....but how do you narrow it down to 3 things?  I have lots!  

What is your current go-to colour combo? 

My favorite color combo right now is probably Gray, White and Coral.  LOVE it.  My most favorite of all time, is Red, Black, Kraft and White.  I usually find one I like and then I find myself using it all the time.  

What is your current go-to embellishment?

I don't use a whole lot on my cards...they are usually pretty CAS.  But I do love enamel dots.  

What is your favorite stamping or organizational tool?

This is a hard one for me.  I love anything organizational...period.  I love my ink storage.  I love my Alex drawers from Ikea.  I love the fridge binz stamp storage....I could keep going.... :)

What is your favorite treat to eat while stamping? 

I try to not eat while stamping.  I stamp sometimes just to stay away from snacks.  lol.  But I do love Almonds and pomegranates.  Those are probably my favorites snacks right now.

What are your three favorite Verve products?

This is such a hard question because I really do love everything Julee releases BUT what I noticed when I was going back and picking my favorites is that I seem to really love the bold Plain Jane's. I find them to be so easy to create with and they are stamps I reach for a lot! I also REALLY love all of the dies but with out a doubt my most used ones are the Banner Bundle Dies, Flag It dies and the Dreamy Leaves Set. Lastly, I am just in love with the wonderful Ribbon Collection. I seriously can't get enough of that stuff - it's so easy to work with and makes some gorgeous bows!

What is your current go-to color combo?

Haha! Let's all say it together now... kraft. Beyond that I honestly don't think I have one. I love a good strong neutral that can stand up to other colors and be a nice base, other than that I don't know that I tend to always reach for one thing or another. Right now I am LOVING red, pink, aqua and grey together. :)

What is your current go-to embellishment?
LOL, again, all together now... burlap twine. :) A fellow card maker constantly teases me that I can make twine work on any card and that any time she asks if a card needs something else she knows I'm going to say twine and low and behold when I scrolled up to check my favorites they all have it. :)

What is your favorite stamping or organizational tool?

Hmm, I couldn't make anything without my Fiskar's Cutting Board, my Big Shot and good selection of metal dies. I'm always on the hunt for ways to organize my stash of stuff better and right now I think the best thing I've added is a peg board behind my desk. It's so nice to have a bunch of things within arms reach. It has REALLY sped up my card making speed. :)

What is your favorite treat to eat while stamping? 

I don't usually snack while stamping - I have a BIG pet peeve about crumbs and chocolate getting on my stamping stuff but I do always have either a big jug of water or a Diet Dr. Pepper near by. :)
