Terrific Trios - September Diva Dare

Hi Verve fans and welcome to September's Diva Dare!  It's Andrea here with you bringing this month's dare which is entitled Terrific Trios.  Back to school time usually means life is a 3 ring circus, so this month we're daring you to add 3 of something to your card or project. 

I started off by cutting out the focal frame with Verve's Rounded Scallop Frame. I took the outside scalloped edge, distressed the edge with ink and then sprayed it with Elmer's glue. I then sprinkled some coarse glitter over it. The sentiment is from Wonderful Marvelous and for that frame I inked the edges and then added some White Opal liquid pearls. Turns out that the liquid pearls interacted with the ink and they turned green! Ugh! In a fit of mild anger, I scraped off the dots with my finger nail. It actually adds to the distressed look so we'll chalk that up to a happy mistake. :) The floral accent consists of silk ribbon with paper flowers attached. I added some pulled apart gauze to the base of the card and then added strips of paper.

Hey everyone! Chaitali here with day 11 of this month's Diva Dare! This month it's all about the men!

 This month we're daring you to create a stamped card or project with a masculine theme. 

Here is my card!

The men in my life (my husband, my dad) appreciate bright and cheery cards so even with masculine cards, I try and keep the overall look of the card light and bright.

For this one I found this excellent pin on Pinterest and CASEd the layout but added my own touch. For the 4 small panels on the card front I use Jennifer McGuire's emboss-and-ink technique.

The sentiment is from Verve Wonderful Marvelous set but I constructed it by selectively inking parts of 2 different stamps in the set. On my blog today, I have a tutorial for 2 different techniques to selectively ink a stamp.

June 2014 Diva Dare - Day 10

Howdy! Jen here with day 9 of this month's Diva Dare! This month it's all about the men!

 This month we're daring you to create a stamped card or project with a masculine theme. 

When it comes to masculine I always find that clean and simple seem to work well for me (and I know it's the kind of card my husband likes so it's win-win)! I started with choosing a color scheme. To do that I just started grabbing cardstock and laying them out on my desk until I found a palette of colors that I liked. Next I went about embossing different pieces and getting a layout sorted out. I wanted to go with the Wonderful Marvelous stamp set because I just LOVE how whimsical it is.  To finish off I dug through my supply of epoxy dots and mixed and matched until I found matching colors to my color scheme. This really went together very fast and I love how it came out!

June 2014 Diva Dare - Day 9

Hi there! Amber here to welcome you to Day 9 of our June Diva Dare! This month, we're all about the boys!

 This month we're daring you to create a stamped card or project with a masculine theme. 

Instead of going for a straight up "man" card, I decided to make a birthday card for a LITTLE man!

I obviously had way too much fun with the spray mist on this card, haha! First step was to emboss the gears from Geared Up in white embossing powder on a piece of Tim Holtz's amazing watercolor paper. After that, I started dripping and splashing some Dylusions inks in blue, turquoise, and a deep blue. To achieve the layers, I dripped ink, then blotted, dripped more ink, then blotted, dripped some water on to pick up colors in some areas, and then dripped some more and hit it with a heat gun to  keep some intense colors as well as the washed out colors. 

The cute little robot is also from Geared Up. The balloons and sentiment are from Chevron Love, and the banner is from Wonderful Marvelous. I embossed the robot and the banner in white embossing powder on vellum paper so I didn't cover up too much of that fun background. For the sentiment, I did some out of the box trimming so my balloons are still attached to the sentiment panel. For one last detail, I added some Metal Mix sequins.

A Man's World

For my masculine themed card, I decided to pull out the new Wonderful Marvelous set and play with some more word combinations.  I went a bit crazy adding pennants, banners and such, but it's a Birthday card so I could leave it feeling drab!  In line with this banner theme, I dusted off the Pennant Trim die and embellished it with some twine to satisfy the horizontal element of this week's Mojo Monday sketch (#350).  Some light distressing with a little ink and it's all ready for an upcoming masculine birthday!

A Man's World - June Diva Dare

Soo...welcome to June's Diva Dare!  As the weather heats up, dads and grads and outdoor fun are foremost in our minds, so our June Dare is entitled A Man's World.    

This month we're daring you to create a stamped card or project with a masculine theme.  It doesn't have to be a Father's Day card, just something masculine. However, if you need to get one done, we're here to help wink, wink. If just reading the theme gives you a creative block, take a deep breath and think clean lines, few embellishments, rugged or distressed edges and muted or earthy colors. Replace bling with wood or metal embellishments, and replace ribbon with twine, rope or twill and you'll be surprised how quickly a masculine card will come together! And I have to say with my love of feminine, frilly, over-the-top girly cards...if I can do this...so can you! Take a lookie...

Ok, ok...I admit there is some semblence of flowers, though, I tried to tone them down a bit with Shine Bright sequins and liquid pearls. Uh, re-reading that sentence didn't really help with my cause at all, haha... Well anyway, I stamped the sentiment from Verve's latest release, Wonderful Marvelous on a piece of cork and added the 'Dad' stamp on a Flag It die cut, also from Verve. I adhered some striped washi tape behind the sentiment and added the wood accents (they're really snowflakes...I kid you not ;). I scored the outer perimeter with my Martha Stewart scoring board and added a bit of cork accent at the bottom, highlighed with more liquid pearls (at least they're black, lol).

A Man's World - June Diva Dare

Greetings Verve Fans!  Maureen here with Day 5 of the June Diva Dare, A Man's World.
 

This month we're daring you to create a stamped card or project with a masculine theme.   

I was itching to make another shaker card with some more wood veneer anchors along with the Metal Mix Sequins mix.  I created the faux metal panel with some silver metallic paper adhered to cardstock and then embossed with the Cuttlebug's Diamond Plate folder.  I stamped the "Happy" from Wonderful Marvelous on the inside of the shaker, then "Father's Day" on the banner.  The small "Dad" banner was created with the Flag it Die Set and a screw brad from Michaels.  Here's a closeup...

It's getting close to that special man holiday and I'm here to share the one made for my man on his special day.

I made this card with the new Wonderful Marvelous Set for it's "trees" (a.k.a flags that are the genius idea of Julee from this card) and custom made sentiment. I love that you can put together a sentiment from all the different stamps in this set. The stars theme around this card come from Starry Die and Scalloped Trim Trio Die Set. I've used the latest Viva La Verve sketch by Julee.

A Man's World - June Diva Dare

Welcome to June's Diva Dare!  It's Charmaine here with Day 3 of our June Dare, which is entitled A Man's World.  This month we're daring you to create a stamped card or project with a masculine theme.

Masculine cards don't always come easy to me since I love pretty ribbon and bling.  It's easier for me to create a masculine card with no embellishments because then I'm not tempted with those girly embellishments!  ;)  For my card I used the  Wonderful Marvelous set along with papers from the Down By the Shore Collection from Fancy Pants Designs.

I used a polka dot embossing folder to counter the stripes in the paper.  I also used a few Verve dies for my card:  Starry Die,  the Flag It Die Set and the Award Banner Trim Die.  Instead of ribbon, I used some hemp cording to make it a little more manly!  :)

Welcome to June's Diva Dare, Teresa here bringing you Day 2 of this month's Diva Dare....A Man's World. 

I have used the Verve stamp set Wonderful Marvelous, it is a fabulous set to have for Father's Day and Mother's Day cards. It is super versatile, the darlin sentiment I have used can be used on cards for anyone who brings a smile to your face. I used bolder colors to stay on the masculine side of things; as well as embossing, sponging, and corrugated cardboard. All of which give it a little more spunk! I have used today's Mojo Monday sketch, be sure to check it out and play along! I hope your will take this month's Verve Diva Dare, I can't wait to see what you create!

A Man's World - June Diva Dare

Welcome to June's Diva Dare!  As the weather heats up, dads and grads and outdoor fun are foremost in our minds, so our June Dare is entitled A Man's World.    

This month we're daring you to create a stamped card or project with a masculine theme.  It doesn't have to be a Father's Day card, just something masculine. However, if you need to get one done, we're here to help wink, wink. If just reading the theme gives you a creative block, take a deep breath and think clean lines, few embellishments, rugged or distressed edges and muted or earthy colors. Replace bling with wood or metal embellishments, and replace ribbon with twine, rope or twill and you'll be surprised how quickly a masculine card will come together!

I paired the newly released Wonderful Marvelous  with some striped paper that had masculine colours, and then added a scatter of stars using the Starry Die.  The banner was fussy cut and paper pieced as were the flags.  A touch of silver twine, a button and some black half pearls added some dimension.  Didn't realize how carried away I got making this card, so checked with hubby and he said it was okay for a masculine card.  Phew!  Squeaked by on this one {grin}.  Mind you, he is married to a card maker and use to my version of masculine creations!
