Project Parade Day 12

Hey there! Jen Tapler here to share my It's a Guy Thing project with all you Verve fans (get ready, this is gonna be a long-winded post!!). I don't know about all of you, but the other divas have been knocking my socks off with their amazing projects this month!!

My guy-themed project is a little mini-album I made for Joel, my hubby, for Father's Day featuring about 8 of my favorite photos of him with our son Dean from the day of his birth through last month. The album itself is a tabbed MDF Kaiser Crafts album I picked up at a scrapbook store on the mainland last week. I used printed digital papers from Dani Mogstad's Tough Guy kit (Sweet Shoppe Designs) along with Chocolate Chip and Kraft CS (SU). I added various ribbons, buttons, hemp twine, staples and punches for embellishments and used several new and old Verve sets (all stamped in Chocolate Chip ink) throughout the album. Here's a look at some of the pages...

For the front cover, I used the large "Dad" image from Protector as well as some of the star outlines from Seeing Stars:On the next set of pages, I used a few of the images from the new Dad's Day set (click image for closer view):I love combining my Verve sentiments and for the "Rockstar Dad" sentiment on this set of pages, I masked a sentiment from Starlight Starbright and combined with "Dad" from World's Best, then added more stars from Seeing Stars. On this page, I used another sentiment from World's Best and my Trio of Tags Spellbinders die to create a little photo tag:And finally, for the back cover I used the same printed papers as the front cover, but this time combined the Father's Day Plain Jane with some stars from Seeing Stars.
I think Joel is going to love this little album and it will make a nice addition to our collection of keepsake mini albums!

Remember, just for playing along with our theme, you'll have a chance to win a Verve stamp set of your choice! Just link your creation to the Mr. Linky form on the Verve Blog Day 1 post before 8 pm MT on Saturday, June 20. We've also hidden another $25 gift certificate somewhere along the parade for a random commenter. So be sure to check out each day of the parade, and leave lots of comments along the way! Have fun and good luck!

Happy Birthday, Dear Julee!

My ATC for this month's Verve Project Parade was inspired by the Tippy-Top Diva herself, none other than the one and only Julee Tilman. How, you ask? Well, let me tell you. # 1. She's a rockstar! Who else do you know that designs such fabulous graphics and combines them with the greatest sentiments known to stamping kind? #2. It's her birthday! Happy, happy birthday, Julee!

Be sure to check out the other Verve Divas' blogs, because they have a little something special up their sleeves for Julee! We're having a Mojo-licious birthday party and the gals are picking their favorite Mojo Monday sketch to create a birthday card for Julee. Want to join the fun? Then go to this post on the Verve Member Company Forum on SCS for the details how to play along. Did I mention that one lucky participant will win the Verve set of her choosing? I didn't? It's true!

Now, on to my ATC. I agree with what Amber said yesterday: making ATCs are strangely satisfying! And they're just so dang cute, too! I don't know how I came up with this strange color combo. I'm not sure if you can tell from the photo, but the background card stock isn't white -- it's actually PTI's Aqua Mist. So I've got Green Galore, Aqua Mist and Basic Black -- weird, but I think it has a good rocker vibe to it. Reminds me of something that Jeffrey or now Stella from Project Runway would throw together (sooo love that show and I'm thrilled a new season has just started!). I used the Swirly and Polka Stars set, as well a sentiment from the first Verve set I ever bought, Starlight Starbright. The focal image and sentiment were heat embossed with black embossing powder. I had some jump rings on my desk from a different project I was working on, so I decided to throw it on here, too, and make a little tag. I'm liking those little things all over again!

The weekend's ahead, and it's too darn hot to do anything outside these days. Instead, why don't you stay in the cool comfort of your stamping space and join our cyber ATC parade? Check out this post for the details and to find out how to win $15 in Verve Bucks!

Supplies used:
Stamps: Swirly Stars, Polka Stars, Starlight Starbright
Paper: Basic Black, Green Galore (SU!), Aqua Mist (PTI)
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, VersaFine
Accessories: black embossing powder, ribbon, oval punch, Junkitz Jump Ringz, foam mounting tape, ticket corner punch, brads from Queen & Co.

My Lucky Stars

When I was thinking about what to create for this post, I looked at all of the sentiments in the Starlight Starbright set. Quite a few of the sentiments inspired cards that I could create, but for some reason the sentiments really inspire me to create scrapbook pages. That's not a normal thing for me. I can usually come up with a card idea MUCH faster than a scrapbook page! This is a picture I took just the other day of my daughters with their new little brother. When I look at this picture, I can't help but be thankful for these three beautiful children. Even more, I can't help but feel so lucky that these two little girls love their little brother so much. "I Thank My Lucky Stars For You" was all too perfect. So whether you're a cardmaker or a scrapper, I'm sure you'll find the perfect sentiment to go along with your creation in the Verve Visual sets! SUPPLIES USED: Stamps- Starlight Starbright (Verve Visual); Paper- Cowboy (Crate Paper); Ink- Burnt Umber (Palette), So Saffron, Bashful Blue (Stampin' Up); Accessories- small and large oval punch, key tag punch, large star punch (Stampin' Up), brads (Making Memories), brown polka dot organdy ribbon (May Arts).

A Day Filled With Possibility

Only one more day until Verve releases four brand new word sets (see THIS post for details)! Along with the four new sets, there is also going to be a "remix" version of Starlight Starbright and Wonderful Wishes! You will still get the same high quality that you've come to expect from Verve...but now with the convenience of clear stamps!! Woohoo!

For this card, I used several of the flower images from Fancy Florals to create my black and white flower. The background was created by embossing another of the stamps included in the Fancy Florals set in black (on both the white and black cardstock). The "Wishing You A Day Filled With Possibility" sentiment is from Starlight Starbright. I just love the uniqueness of the sentiments in that set...it makes the card I use it on even more personal and special to the recipient!

Make sure to check back here to see what Julee has created for you! ~Laurie

Stamps: Fancy Florals, Starlight Starbright (Verve Visual)
Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black (Stampin' Up!)

A "Gift" Card?

To be more precise, a card with a gift. This is a slight variation of a card design I came up with a while back. That circle element, with the sentiment, actually comes off the card and is a bookmark. Too cute, huh? I'm a fairly avid reader, and this style of bookmark is awesome. It has magnets inside so that it doesn't fall out of the book. That's especially nice if you're reading while traveling.

So, here's how you do it:
1. Stamp the circle frame and sentiment from Wonderful Wishes and the stars from Starlight Starbright. Punch with 1-3/8 inch circle punch.

2. Cut two layers of scalloped circles. I used the Nestabilites scalloped circle dies measuring approximately 1-5/8 and 2-1/8 inches.
3. Cut the folded circular piece you see above. The widest part of this circle must fit through the word window punch. This will be important later! I again used a Nestablity die measuring about 1-5/8 inches. To make this cut: Use a folded piece of card stock and position the die so a small portion lays over the fold.
4. Now glue all the pieces together to make the bookmark.
5. Add magnets to the back of the bookmark, making sure they are going to stick to each other properly. I just used some from one of those magnet rolls available at office supply stores. I would suggest Basic Grey magnetic snaps for a neater look, if you'd like.
6. Design your card front as desired, punching a hole with the Word Window punch where you will insert your bookmark. Insert the bookmark. No adhesive is needed, as the magnets will hold it in place, also allowing your recipient to remove the bookmark later. NOW, with the bookmark in place, glue your card front to the card base. This will make sure it's not too tight to fit the bookmark into place.

A Note: The black embellishments on my card are dots of Crystal Effects covered while wet with black glitter.

Recipe:
Stamps: Starlight Starbright, Wonderful Wishes (Verve Visual)
Paper: Pearlized white (Paper Accents); Magnolia (My Mind's Eye) used front and back; white (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tempting turquoise, old olive (Stampin' Up!); Onyx black (Versafine)
Accessories: Black grosgrain ribbon, Word window punch, Crystal Effects, circle punch (Stampin' Up!); Nestabilities dies (Spellbinder); Cuttlebug, scalloped scissors (ProvoCraft); black thread and sewing machine, magnets, black glitter

Seeing Stars

Yesterday, Jen said in her post that the Starlight Starbright set fills a large void, and I couldn't agree more. Stars are wonderful symbols for things like achievements, holidays, wishes and dreams -- and there are far too few rubber stamps out there that celebrate stars.

For today's card I happened to find my actual stars by way of the patterned paper & star cut-outs, so the sentiment from the set played perfectly into the layout. For a fun little twist, I let the smaller scalloped oval be framed by the larger non-scalloped oval.

Supply List:
Stamps: Starlight Starbright (Verve Visual)
Paper:
Cowboy Collection (Crate Paper), Star Kissed Star Mile (Daisy Bucket)
Ink:
Chestnut Roan Chalk Ink (ClearSnap), VersaFine Vintage Sepia (Tsukineko)
Accessories:
Extra Jumbo Scalloped Oval Punch & Super Jumbo Oval Punch (Marvy Uchida); Grograin w/ Satin Center Ribbon (May Arts)

When you visit the Verve Store to purchase your stamps, don't miss those fun new patterned papers! They're yummy 4-design packs from the Delicious Desserts collection called Chocolate and Berry. And for your chance to win Verve stamps, hurry on over to Jen's blog where she'll be doing a drawing on Friday morning for two fabulous sets!

Happy Stamping!

Lots of Wishes...

I cannot tell you in words how much fun I have had with the 2 latest releases. I truly believe that the star set fills a void in the world of stamping. Stars are hot right now and it's really hard to find a set, or even a single star stamp for that matter, that just rocks. So here I am raising my glass to Julee for creating the star set! Thanks Julee!
In addition to Starlight Starbright, Wonderful Wishes also came out on the 10th of November. This set, too, has been fun to play with. I like how it covers all of the wishes...wedding wishes, birthday wishes, holiday wishes...etc. It's like you dropped your penny into a wishing well and this set came true. Wow, that was cheesy, huh??...but true!!
Anywhooo...I'll wrap up my yip yap about how wonderful I think these stamps are and just show you why...

This is a card and tag set that I created by combining Starlight Starbright and Wonderful Wishes. I left some room on the tag under the sentiment for someone's name to be written on it.

Next up I have a card using last week's Mojo Monday sketch (and you thought I didn't do it!). This card also combines the two sets. As proven time and time again, red on red does not photograph well, but if you look closely, there are red stars stamped on the red paper.

Love these sets and are still haven't ordered? Check out the VERVE STORE. Or...you can try for a chance to win some Verve stamps over at my blog... www.iheart2stamp.com GOOD LUCK!

Meaningful, POSITIVE Sentiments

When I saw the Verve Visual November stamp sets with the most awesome sentiments included I knew these were a must have for me. The sentiments cover just about any expression you would want to convey. I especially liked the "Starlight Starbright" set with heartfelt expressions, words of encouragement and positive reinforcements for my card fronts. It is rare to find a stamp set with such positive expressions - these expressions can be used for many occasions and all ages. This sample would be perfect for a young adult or adult - I would probably use this particular sample more for a young lady - being its all purple and such. You could easily change the color scheme to fit most any age and gender.

Card Details:
Stamp Sets: Swirls Wheel (SU), sentiment for Starlight Starbright (Verve Visual)
Inks: VersaMark & VersaMagic
Cardstock/Paper: Brushed Silver, Lovely Lilac, Lavender Lace (SU);pattern paper "Echo Collection" (Memory Box)
Accessories: Thick Cut Stars (Sizzix); star embossing folder (Cuttlebug); metal star colored with Copic and airbrush (Pressed Metals); sandpaper; sequins and brads (Queen & Co); wave cut using Creative Memories paper cutter

Now you've had a chance to get your sets - I challenge you to create your positive encouragements and send/give to someone. Make sure to check in daily through the end of the month for other wonder samples. Enjoy, Lila

Shine On

Shine. That's the word I think of when I look at all the sentiments in the Starlight Starbright stamp set that was released this month by Verve Visual. The sentiments are SO inspirational and positive! Not only do stars shine, but we do too when we look to each day with hope and possibility, and share that outlook with others. Sure, it's easy to focus on all the doom and gloom in the world, but why when you can spread love instead?

This set makes it easy to spread love to those around you. Since I couldn't choose just ONE sentiment for the card, I decided to incorporate FOUR of my favorites instead!! I summed them all up with the word "SHINE", which I placed on the front of the card, right next to all the sentiments. The letters were cut out using my Cuttlebug alphabet dies. I stamped each sentiment on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, distressed it, and then mounted it on a vertical strip of paper, so it looks like each one is a sign hanging on a post. The designer paper is from Crate and is from their Cowboy Collection. You can buy it for yourself at the Verve store. I absolutely LOVE this paper and I think it lends itself well to many different applications (other than cowboys)!

So go ahead, be a light in someones life today. Let them know how much they mean to you with a card using an inspiring sentiment from Verve Visual's Starlight Starbright stamp set. Don't be afraid to SHINE!

A Couple of Gift Items

Ever looking for a unique, handmade gift for someone? Why not try a journal!? I made this little journal out of 4x4 coasters using my Bind It All. The coasters were covered with the Echo paper from Memory Box. I stamped some of the stars and swirls from Starlight Starbright in white craft ink. I made a shaker box to add to the cover of the journal. The paper inside was stamped with yellow and white stars and then I added star sequins, star jewels and glitter inside the shaker. The binding was super simple with my Bind It All (you can get the coils in the Verve Store). Add as many pages as you like inside the journal. I just cut those to 3.5x3.5 and rounded the corners. Ribbon and the sentiment were added for the finishing touches. I was going to give this as a gift, but I may just keep it for myself! :)

The second little gift item I have for you is a magnetic paperclip! You can stick this on your fridge to hold your "to do" list or your inspirational quote for the day! This was made using the Stampin' Up Small Tag punch. I punched the tag out of the Echo paper and folded the tags to form the "flower" and attached it to a jumbo paperclip. Finally, add a magnet to the back! If you just want to use it as a paperclip or bookmark, don't use a magnet.

I hope I've given you some gift ideas for the coming holiday season! Hope you are LOVING your Verve Visual stamps. . .I know I am! Be sure and check back this week for more ideas from the Verve Visual Design Team!

Tomorrow!

"The stamps'll come out
Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on
'Til tomorrow
Come what may
Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
I love ya Tomorrow!
You're always
A day
A way!"

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. And I've never even seen Annie. (I know, I know. How could you not have seen Annie?) But really, the stamps DO come out tomorrow! So this is your last sneak peek.

Here, I paired up one of the great sentiments from Starlight Starbright with a few of the "doodads" also included in the set. The star is a chipboard element from Basic Grey. I inked the sides with Red Brick ink (Versamagic).

To cover the chipboard: lay the star down on your choice of background paper and trace with a pencil. Cut out just inside your pencil lines. Glue the paper to the star and sand off the edges. I used a nail file, because I still haven't gotten a Basic Grey Precision file set yet. I wanted a little more definition, so I inked the top edges in Onyx Black (Versafine) by simply rubbing the chipboard along the stamp pad.

The two other background papers also got the Onyx Black edge treatment.

The sentiment is visually connected to the star element with that little dotted line (from Thoughtful Phrases). That way it's not just floating among the polka dots. Lastly, I accented with those little "doodads" I told you about. The swirly star in the corners and the little individual stars on the bottom are a few of the extras you'll love in Starlight Starbright.

Ingredients:
Stamps: Starlight Starbright and Thoughtful Phrases (Verve Visual)
Paper: Sunday Brunch (Arctic Frog); Ruby Red (Stampin' Up!); Stamper's Select White (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Red Brick (VersaMagic); Onyx Black (Versafine)
Accessories: Chipboard Elements (Basic Grey); Ribbon (May Arts); Pop Dots (All Night Media)

Now, don't forget, the stamps come out "TOMORROW"! But how could you forget, after that stirring rendition of your favorite Annie song?

You're A Rockstar!

I just got the biggest kick out of this sentiment the first time that I saw it in Verve's new Starlight Starbright set that is being released on Saturday!!

While first this card hardly displays what this set is all about, it is the epitome of what I thought of when I saw "You're a Rockstar." I have had the bling-y charm in my stash for quite sometime now. I think that I probably picked it up at Wal-Mart or Michael's...sorry that my "rememberer" is on the fritz about where it was purchased. The ribbon is black organdy from SU!. The Verve Store carries a similar ribbon that is lined in gold. I am a matchy-matchy person, so I just couldn't live with a silver charm and gold on my ribbon.
The next card also features the Starlight Starbright set. I really like the images that Julee paired with these fabulous sentiments. The top and bottom panels show one of the (as I call it) swirls and stars images. I think that you could go really Western with this set, or very elegant. Although I haven't done it yet, I would like to make some stationary that is bordered with this star and swirl image. Not only does this card have great stamps on it, but the Crate Paper is so yummy. It took a lot out of me to use it and not put it into the pile that should be labeled "Hoarding for later use...or maybe not."

Birthday Wishes!

Do you know what makes me REALLY love a set of stamps? If they are versatile enough to be used for something other than the obvious. This set, Starlight Starbright, is exactly that!

I think I have a new-found love in the stamping world...STARS! I created this card with a younger person in mind, and purposely didn't embellish it too much so that it could be personalized for a boy OR girl. I adore the sentiment "Superstar, yes that's what you are!" (although I did get Madonna's Vogue song stuck in my head while creating it. Shhhh, don't tell!).

I used the larger star, and small swirl star images to make my own PP, then stamped and cut out the "balloons" and used a small star to make the streamers. I originally intended to stamp the sentiment directly over the streamers, but changed my mind and stamped it on a separate piece of white CS and adhered it on top. The middle "balloon" is raised on pop dots and sticks over the top for added interest. Some paper piercing, a few layers of ribbon and it's done!

Colors could easily be changed as could the sentiment to suit the occasion. I think this particular card will become a staple in my card repertoire! Just think, 25th anniversary, kid's birthday, cheer up, happy graduation, etc., etc.

I'm sure you will love this Starlight Starbright set as much as I do, maybe even more! I love finding alternative uses for specific stamps, don't you?

I Thank My Lucky Stars

It's easy to forget to hug, kiss and cuddle teenagers because, typically, they don't allow their parents within 3 feet of the protective shield they've constructed around themselves to ward away unwanted love and affection! Sure, they'll submit to a stiff, board-like hug before they head off to school each morning, but much more than that is gross and embarrassing. Maybe it's just because I have boy teenagers. Maybe girls are better at affection as teenagers than boys are.

Anyways, such it is with my eldest son, 16 going on 23. We were very affectionate with each other when he was younger, but as he's grown older, he doesn't "need" that special bonding time with me anymore. {Sigh}. Regardless, I wanted to be able to tell him just how special he was to me even though I might not hug, kiss and cuddle him as much as I did when he was a little boy.

That's why I made this card using Verve's newest stamp set, Starlight Starbright, which is going to be released November 10th. The set contains 17 stamps that will help you create some of the greatest cards ever! If you've got a young tween/teen, this is the stamp set for you because it's got some great sentiments sure to tug at the heartstrings of your child. Even if you DON'T have a child, these sentiments are universal in nature, perfect for ANY special people in your life!

This card couldn't have been easier...I sewed a quick Old Olive pocket on the front of some really cool designer paper geared toward school "stuff". I stamped some stars on the front of the pocket along with the word "Son". The card I tucked inside was stamped with a sentiment from Starlight Starbright that reads "I Thank My Lucky Stars For You". How perfect is this sentiment for letting your son or daughter know how special they are to you? It gets the message across without being too "mushy", doesn't it?

I plan on giving this to my son sometime over the next few days. I'm so glad Julee created this set that will make communicating with my teenager boys a lot easier!

Stamps: Starlight Starbright (Verve Visual), Star Studded Season (SU), All Holidays (SU)

Paper: designer (unknown), Old Olive, So Saffron (SU), Pearlized Cream (Paper Accents)

Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in Chestnut Roan, Old Olive (SU)
Techniques: Machine sewing

Are You Tempted Yet?

Do you want to see more of these two new sets coming November 10? I really think you're going to love them! Here's another sneak peek of the Starlight Starbright set. You are going to LOVE all of the unique sentiments in this set. As soon as I saw this one, I knew I had to use this picture of my little "diva". :)

I started out with Echo paper by Memory Box and stamped the stars in Perfect Plumeria and Purple Hydrangea VersaMagic inks. Before adding the picture, I sprayed adhesive over the top portion of it and sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds glitter on it to give it a "night sky" feel. I then mounted it onto the page and added the Heidi Swapp Ghost Stars. The ghost stars are colored using the Tim Holtz alcohol inks (by Ranger) in Stream and Wild Plum. Lastly, I added the cream organdy ribbon, paper piercing and the perfect sentiment!

I hope you're enjoying the sneak peeks of these two fabulous sets that Verve Visual has in store for you! Be sure to check back here daily until November 10 for more sneak peeks by the very talented Design Team! Let them tempt you even more! :)

Want Another Peek?

I am soooo excited for you guys to see this set!! I love it! It's called Starlight Starbright, and you are going to love it too!!

This set has 17 (yep, I said SEVENTEEN) stamps, and 11 of them are sentiments. This one, though, is my favorite.

I decided to make this a "scrappy" card...in the literal sense. I cut up a bunch of 1" strips of the Crate Paper Cowboy collection and sewed them (a little wonky on purpose!) together. The main panel needed to be pretty simple, so I stamped the oval star background stamp in Apricot Appeal on Papertrey White cardstock, and then stamped "You're a Rockstar" on top.

To add some glam, I doodled around the oval with my Midnight Stardust pen, and did some faux stitching around the white panel. I also went over the sentiment with my Clear Stardust pen to make it shimmer.

I loved these Heidi Swapp Ghost Stars that Julee sent...they're available in the Verve Store now! I swiped the edges onto my White Stazon pad to make them stand out, and then turned it into a button by punching 2 holes in the center with my Crop-a-dile. The sheer polka dot ribbon was the finishing touch. Here's a closer pic so you can see the glam and the Ghost Star.

So the 2 sets that will be released on November 10th are Wonderful Wishes and Starlight Starbright. I promise you will love them both! Come back and visit for more peekies until the 10th, when you'll be able to get 'em for yourselves! You also might catch a little peek on some of the Design Team Members blogs...so make sure you visit!

Hope you have a great day!
