May Diva Dare - Day 12

Hi Verve fans!  It's Julee here wrapping up the design team posts for our Stars & Stripes Diva Dare.  Have you been following along?  There's a chance at one of 3 prizes for leaving comments along the Dare, as well as the possibility of winning Verve's ENTIRE May release for playing along with our Stars & Stripes challenge!!!  So what ya waitin' for?  The deadline is this Thursday, May 30!!!

For my Diva Dare card I went with a traditional take on Stars & Stripes.  I absolutely love Americana and so I kept my look a bit shabby with the idea of making a card suitable for sending to someone in the military.  I thought this sentiment from Let it Be was just perfect for that.  I kept things pretty simple,  using the Viva la Verve! May Week 4 sketch. (Are you playing along with VLV???  There's a chance to win a $100 gift voucher to Verve if you participate in all 4 of this month's sketches.) I used the Starry Die to cut through my two layers of paper, then popped the panel up on dimensionals to really make the background under the stars shine through.  The little border is made with the Scallop Trim Trio Die Set and I finished off with some cluster stars and sort of stripey blue ribbon.

May Diva Dare - Day 11

Wow, what a wonderful Diva sample for this month's dare! I really didn't realize the day in which I picked to share my dare until just a week ago. It's a federal holiday in the USA, to take a moment and honor those who have given their service to our country.  So before I share my project here are the dare details.

This month's dare pays tribute to Diva Amber's (Stamping Scrapbooker) military service and Diva Laurie Willison's (Soapbox Creations) wonderful use of stripes on her cards.  So we're daring you to create a card using stars and/or stripes.  While the title may conjure up visions of red, white and blue any stars and stripes will do! If you're feeling pretty in pink, go for it! Just remember to use at least one Verve product on your creation!  If you want to get really daring, you can add the extra challenge of making it a CAS card with stars and/or stripes, as that is Diva Laurie's signature style.  However, that is not a requirement, just an optional twist to the Dare if you're feeling daring!

It seems fitting to go with a red, white and blue theme on my card today. I'd feel rather silly if I didn't post something for the US Memorial Day holiday and our Diva Amber is an amazing lady who gave to the service of her country. Thank you to all you have served and are still serving!

My first card focuses on something I see every time I look at one of her cards. Amber has the best ability to cluster her focal points and keep them so sweet and clean, love that about her style. I'll give you the enabler list of the Verve goodies and give you the option to check out my blog post for some assembly details. Here's the goodies list: Let It Be Stamp Set, Banner Bundle Die Set, Scalloped Trim Trio Die Set, and the Starry Die. On to my second card.

I wanted to make a Laurie style CAS card too and lucky me I had too much paint leftover from the first card so I used it on a banner shape card base. The sentiment is from Let It Be and framed with a little bit of texture made with the bubble wrap and corrugate board that still had paint on them.

This was an extremely fun dare to be challenged with and I can't wait to see even more projects in the dare gallery.

I had plenty of inspiration this month...not only with our talented Divas we are highlighting, but with my son's graduation from Engineering next week :)  His university colours are gold and navy (my alma mater!) so that took care of the colour scheme.  Then came some stripes from Strong Anchor and a whole bunch of sparkling stars from the Starry Die and glitter cardstock.  I couldn't resist adding a little extra note from Small Phrases to let Jake know I am extra proud of him.  But the part I love best is the centre piece, Happy Graduation.  I was so excited that it was part of the latest Release...perfect timing for me! Then last, but not least,  I added some fun golden flag ends from the Flag It die set.

Well, hello again Verve fans!  It's Laurie S. here, and I'm so excited to share with you my take on this month's Diva Dare!

Okay...you might want to sit down for this as I have shocking news!  I followed the Dare exactly!!  I even created a CAS to honor Diva Laurie W.'s style!!  It's hard to believe, but very true!  :-)  I used striped patterned paper, star rhinestones, some paper pieced flowers and a sentiment (all from the new  Let it Be set)!


I just love this sentiment, don't you?  It's so perfect for sending a friend a little bit of encouragement!

(Fun huh? Stars and Stripes!)  Here is my card...

I used the reverse side of the rope (again....kinda hooked on stripes!)  from Strong Anchor in yellow ink.  I added in a sentiment and image from Shining Star.  It's kinda hard to see in the picture, but the stars are full of Star Dust Stickles.  :)

Here is my take on this month's Diva Dare:

I couldn't help myself...as soon as I heard 'stars and stripes' my brain automatically went to the good ol' red, white and blue...so I went with it! The main sentiment is from a previously released Verve set called American Hero. I stamped that on a white panel and raised it up on a Occasion Frame die. I stamped the frame from the On Ocassion set and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. The blue and white star strip were cut with a Verve Ribbon Banner die and the left and right sides were stamped with a border from the Strong Anchor set. At the bottom, I stamped 'thank you for all you do' from the Teacher's Count set, because really that would work for anyone you're thankful for. Lastly I added some stars which were cut out using Verve's Starry die set.

My Diva Dare inspiration pairs some classic stars and stripes colors with a sentiment for a special upcoming holiday.  The colors are an obvious nod to Amber's military service and I tried to leave a big patch of stripes exposed to highlight Laurie's CAS style.  The stamp set used was the new Strong Anchor set, including the fabulous circle border and many Father's Day sentiments.  I also used plenty of pennants, cutting them with the Banner Bundle Die Set and the Pennant Trim Die.  Finally, I added some accent stars using the Starry Die.  I also used plenty of hardware embellishments on one half of the card while leaving the other half a little cleaner in an attempt to blend these two Diva styles.  Finally, the sketch used for this card is this week's Viva La Verve sketch (May week 3) by Charmaine.  I hope that's enough challenges to inspire you all and I can't wait to see what you come up with!!
