July Diva Dare - Day 12

Hi Verve fans!  It's Julee here, wrapping up the final day of our Tattered Pages July Diva Dare with my take on a shabby, uplifting creation.

My card features one of my most favorite Verve sentiments, the  Be Okay plain jane.  I am often taking little "mama time outs" to breathe deeply and tell myself everything IS going to be okay, everything is going to be okay, so this stamp is near and dear to my heart.  I paired it with the frame from On Occasion  which is embossed in white onto vellum and then layered over soft sky cardstock.  Both layers are cut with the coordinating Occasion Frame Die and I added a bit of antique linen sponging for an aged look.

The lines between shabby chic and mixed-media always seem to blur when I'm working in my style, so I started by using a piece of punchinella (sequin waste) as a stencil to add some white paint dots to the soft sky vertical panel.  I then layered the doily on top of this, adding a bit of distressing with antique linen and vintage photo ink.  These panels are adhered to some brown paper bag cardstock that I stamped with the straight loopy border from On Occasion, then I cut the whole thing with the Circles Grand Nestabilities.

I made a little accent with a flower, a stick pin, a bead and some soft sky grosgrain ribbon that I've been hoarding.  Next up I fingerpainted some surf paint and some white paint randomly around the card.  I forgot that I usually tone down the surf by mixing in some white before applying it.  But since I'd already applied it, I decided to use some dry wall tape as a stencil to apply some white dots to the surf, so it wasn't quite so bright.  Lots more distressing with ink, a paper distresser, then a coating of champagne glass glitter and some liquid pearls and scattered bling finish things off.

The base is made from die cut Scalloped Grand Nestabilities layered together for a clamshell type opening.  I sponged the scallops with Vintage Photo ink and then added some more liquid pearls.  The finished size of the card is 5.5" in diameter.

July Diva Dare - Day 11

Tattered Pages, July Diva Dare

Hello Verve fans!! Christyne here bringing you some inspiration on day 11 of this month's Diva Dare entitled "Tattered Pages".

This month's dare pays tribute to Julee (Poetic Artistry), owner and creator of Verve Stamps and Diva Teresa (Paperie Blooms).  Julee has created countless, uplifting sentiments which have become one of Verve's trademarks, and Teresa knows how to rock distressing and "shabbiness" on her cards.  So what we're daring you to create this month is a card using an uplifting sentiment and some distressing and/or shabby element to it.  Kind of like an encouraging card you have received which you have read so many times the edges are a bit tattered.  Just remember to use at least one Verve product on your creation!

For my card, I decided to use the Flowers of Tomorrow Plain Jane as my sentiment.  I love to garden, so this sentiment is very uplifting to me!  I printed the sentiment in black ink and paired that with black cardstock accents as a nod to both fabulous Divas who frequently use black accents so well in their creations.  To highlight Julee's amazing talents, I tried to add background stamp accents from the Borderline set on the sentiment as well as some loopy accents from On Occasion along the page borders.  I just love how she always utilizes the entire stamp set in her projects.  To highlight Teresa's awesome style, I used some shabby pastels, added a giant, bold loopy bow with Verve's Truly Madly, Deeply Ribbon Collection, as well as a bunch of distressed DP-only panels.  

Additionally, the sketch used for this card was last week's Viva la Verve sketch (July 2013 week 4).  To highlight this unique sketch, I used the Flourish Trim Die as a border.

Here's how I answered the dare:

I'm not going to lie.  This was a challenge for me.  I am usually a CAS girl.  I look around and see the all these gorgeous distressed and layered projects and I am always in awe of these girls!  So this is my attempt at layering and distressing and even a seam binding bow!  I used one of my most favorite sentiments from Verve's set Surely Goodness. I added in some twine and a wood button and even a few pearls.  OH and I added in a banner border on the side too!  :)  I hope I did these fabulous Diva's proud!  :)

July Diva Dare - Day 9

Hi, it's Janelle here and time for another sample to this month's dare. We have two pretty amazing Diva's to inspire us for the dare with lots of fun in their style and their uplifting personalities. If you're just coming in to see the Diva Dare today, we are so glad to see you here, join in on the fun!

This month's dare pays tribute to Julee (Poetic Artistry), owner and creator of Verve Stamps and Diva Teresa (Paperie Blooms).  Julee has created countless, uplifting sentiments which have become one of Verve's trademarks, and Teresa knows how to rock distressing and "shabbiness" on her cards.  So what we're daring you to create this month is a card using an uplifting sentiment and some distressing and/or shabby element to it.  Kind of like an encouraging card you have received which you have read so many times the edges are a bit tattered.  Just remember to use at least one Verve product on your creation!

My sample takes the style elements of both of our Divas this month. Twine with swirling ends. Flowers. Sewing. Tattered edges. Since flowers aren't usually my embellishment staple I created one with Verve's Joyful Blooms Die Set and a half pearl for the center with a little liquid pearls. I surrounded the flower with a banner from Banner Bundle Set, bow made with ribbon (grapefruit seam binding ribbon in the Truly Madly Deeply Ribbon Collection) and twine. I even added the Scalloped Trim Trio Die Set tucked in beside a panel. A few distressed edges and sponging with Ranger's Old Paper and Worn Lipstick. Aren't those perfect ink names for this challenge!

Uplifting? Verve has so many wonderful uplifting sentiments it was really hard to pick from my selection of them, but I'm in need of a few Thank You cards and the stamps in Words Cannot Express set were just right for this card giving it that handwritten vintage look.

This card is finished off with an embossing on the card base, sewing around the edges and random dots of liquid pearls next to some knotted grapefruit ribbon.

As I was planning out my card I went back through Teresa's blog and decided I wanted to highlight her gorgeous use of pattern and vintage/shabby elements like twine, seam binding and flowers. I used seam binding from the Signature Ribbon Collection and highlighted the flower with leaves from Dream Big die cut with the Dreamy Leaves Dies. I didn't distress my card but I think it still has a bit of shabby feel to it with the flower cluster and patterned paper.

To highlight Julee's uplifting sentiments I chose New Mercies. I love this stamp set and was in need of a sympathy card for a close friend and I new this set would be perfect to lift her spirits.

To created the scalloped edge I used the Flourish Trim Die. The sentiment is die cut with the Classy Label Die.

Hello Verve fans!!  Maureen here starting another fabulous week and Day 7 of this month's Diva Dare entitled "Tattered Pages".

It was a joy to focus on the styles of Julee and Teresa this month :)  Julee's beautiful spirit just oozes from each and every sentiment and image she creates.  I don't know why, but when I was looking through all my Verve sentiments, I stopped at this Grace Plain Jane and looked no further.  I just knew this was the sentiment I had to use.  This was the one that at that moment reminded me of Julee.  Always graceful, uplifting, sweet and real.  Enter Teresa's gorgeous shabby, vintage style and I knew I had to add some great papers, lots of distressing, delicious ribbon and a touch of lace. Something pretty and special, just like Teresa.  Now, this card has another special purpose.  A colleague and his wife had a a baby over a year ago and named her "Grace."  I've been meaning to make them a card with this sentiment ever since its release.  So now I have!  I'll be popping it into the mail ASAP for a fun surprise :)

This month's dare pays tribute to Julee (Poetic Artistry), owner and creator of Verve Stamps and Diva Teresa (Paperie Blooms).  Julee has created countless, uplifting sentiments which have become one of Verve's trademarks, and Teresa knows how to rock distressing and "shabbiness" on her cards.  So what we're daring you to create this month is a card using an uplifting sentiment and some distressing and/or shabby element to it.  Kind of like an encouraging card you have received which you have read so many times the edges are a bit tattered.  Just remember to use at least one Verve product on your creation!  
Here's how I answered the dare:

I'll just admit it...this was not a hard challenge for me!  I absolutely adore both Julee and Teresa's styles so this was SUCH a fun challenge!  :-)  Choosing an "uplifting" sentiment was not hard at all (almost every single Verve sentiment is uplifting :-)...well, narrowing it down to just one did take some time!  I chose one of the sentiments from the Let it Be set.  I also stamped the large flower (included in the Let it Be set) partially on/off the heart (which I die cut using the Jotted Heart Die).  While I didn't distress the edges of my card, I did ink distress them!  :-)  I chose colors and patterns that were vintage/shabby in nature but still had a bit of a modern flair.  For the final touch, I added some vintage seam binding ribbon (from Verve's Signature Seam Binding Collection).

Hello Verve fans! Today is my day to post here celebrating this month's lovely Verve Divas Teresa and Julee! This month's challenge is called "Tattered Pages". Here's a bit about the challenge in Marisa's words:

This month's dare pays tribute to Julee (Poetic Artistry), owner and creator of Verve Stamps and Diva Teresa (Paperie Blooms).  Julee has created countless, uplifting sentiments which have become one of Verve's trademarks, and Teresa knows how to rock distressing and "shabbiness" on her cards.  So what we're daring you to create this month is a card using an uplifting sentiment and some distressing and/or shabby element to it.  Kind of like an encouraging card you have received which you have read so many times the edges are a bit tattered.  Just remember to use at least one Verve product on your creation!  
Here's how I answered the dare:

This 'challenge' is really no challenge for me....I'm right at home in my easy chair of vintage/shabby chic. I started off using Maja  Design's new Sofiero collection, roughed up the edges a bit and added some authentic vintage lace, crinkled, inked seam binding, and some chipboard and crocheted pieces. The sentiment is from Verve's Words of Wisdom set...brimming with uplifting and encouraging sentiments. To add a bit of interest, I sprinkled the kraft frame with coarse glitter and added a partial frame behind the focal panel.

I always love Teresa's fun multi-loop bows on her cards so I had to make sure to throw one of those on my card:) I used the gorgeous seam binding we now offer, from the Spring Fling collection.

The sentiment is one of my favorite for Thank You cards and is from Words Cannot Express.

I added some sewing, doilies, buttons, and rhinestones to finish off my "tattered" look.

Here is my take on this month's dare:

I used the Hundred Hearts set for my card along with the frame from Twitterpated.  The frame was die cut using the Hearts & Swirls Frame Die.  The papers are from the Blossom Soup Collection from Jillibean Soup.  The heart doily was something I found in the Target Dollar Bin long ago.  :)  The ribbon is from the Spring Fling Ribbon Collection.   You can see a little peek of the heart border from the Scalloped Trim Trio Die Set. I sponged a little ink around the edges of the card, the frame and doily to give a little more of that distressed look.  The patterned papers were "roughed up" with the edge of my scissors.  This isn't a style that I normally "do", but I had a lot of fun creating today's card!

Happy Monday Verve fans, it is Teresa and we have kicked off this month's Diva Dare and it is called "Tattered Pages"...luv that title!

Julee (Poetic Artistry) and myself (Paperie Blooms)are the spotlight divas this month! Julee has created countless, uplifting sentiments which have become one of Verve's trademarks, and if you follow my blog you know I luv distressing and "shabbiness" on my cards.  So what we're daring you to create this month is a card using an uplifting sentiment and some distressing and/or shabby element to it.  Kind of like an encouraging card you have received which you have read so many times the edges are a bit tattered.  Just remember to use at least one Verve product on your creation!  

First off, I started with today's Mojo Monday sketch; head over to the Mojo Monday Blog and play along with us! I went all out on the shabby/distressing element of my card, totally luv this look! I layered, tore, scrunched, and curled my card to the perfect shabby look. I luv that Julee creates scripture stamps and what is more uplifting than scripture? I reached for the Plain Jane Psalm 37:4, I stamped it and then cut it out using the Classy Label Die by Verve. I added a Wavy Heart Die by Verve to the left corner. The positive scripture and all the shabby goodness complete the dare for me this month! I look forward to how you answer this month's Tattered Pages Verve Diva Dare!
